1️⃣ BlackRock Launches Two Tokenized Money Market Funds for Stablecoin Reserves
On August 3 BlackRock expanded its tokenized cash lineup with two new products built for stablecoin issuers: BSTBL, a tokenized share class of its Select Treasury Based Liquidity Fund issued on Ethereum, and BRSRV, a daily-reinvestment reserve vehicle available across multiple blockchains. Both are designed to qualify as eligible reserve assets under the GENIUS Act, positioning the world's largest asset manager as the stablecoin reserve manager of choice. BlackRock already manages roughly $60 billion of Circle's reserves and its BUIDL fund has grown to about $2.5 billion, while its broader cash business oversees nearly $1.07 trillion.
2️⃣ US Senate Opens First Stage of CLARITY Act Voting, Targeting September
Early on August 8 Senate Majority Leader John Thune filed a motion to proceed on the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, formally opening the cloture process the chamber uses for bills without unanimous support. The step means an initial procedural vote can be held almost immediately after the Senate returns in September, giving the market structure bill roughly three weeks of floor time. While the bill still needs 60 votes and open questions remain on ethics provisions and stablecoin rewards, the filing keeps crypto's landmark framework alive for 2026 — and it comes after BlackRock, Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, Goldman Sachs and SoFi publicly endorsed it.
3️⃣ Bitcoin and Ether ETFs Draw $1.1 Billion in Best Inflow Week Since April
US spot bitcoin and ether ETFs pulled in a combined $1.1 billion for the week ending August 7, the strongest week for either category since April. Bitcoin funds took in about $853.5 million — their largest weekly total since the week ending April 17 — with BlackRock's IBIT accounting for $693.7 million, more than 80% of the group. Spot ether ETFs added $244.9 million, extending their streak to five consecutive positive weeks, the longest run of 2026, even as trading volumes across both categories eased on the week.
4️⃣ Tokenized Asset Deposits Triple to $7.4 Billion, CoinShares Reports
A CoinShares and Token Terminal report published August 7 found that tokenized real-world asset deposits tripled year-over-year from $2.3 billion to $7.4 billion, while RWA spot trading volumes rose about 220%. Ethereum captured roughly 70% of RWA deposits and dominates on-chain RWA lending venues, with tokenized Treasuries, gold and equity indexes leading demand. CoinShares CEO Jean-Marie Mognetti noted that "investors are not leaving traditional finance behind — look at what is actually being used on-chain: Treasuries, gold, the S&P 500," with the report likening RWA adoption today to where stablecoins stood in 2019.

5️⃣ Coinbase Brings 24/5 US Stock Trading to UK Users
On August 6 Coinbase launched US equities trading for eligible UK users, opening access to nearly 4,000 US stocks with zero commissions, fractional shares from as little as £1, and 24/5 market hours. Trades can be funded instantly with GBP or USDC, with custody through Apex Clearing and execution via Coinbase Capital Markets, making it the first crypto-native app to offer US equities in the UK.
